The Benefits of Pleated Filters

There Is a Reason They Are Called Throw-Away Filters (Fiberglass or Polyester)!
Did you know that the life expectancy of your filter depends on your environment and the type of filters you use? Some customers decide to save a few dollars by opting to go with a fiberglass (throw-away filter) verses a pleated filter. Fiberglass filters can last up to 30 days while pleated filters can last up to 90 days. So unless you are getting monthly filter changes we always suggest using a pleated filter.

Why Do Pleated Filters Last Longer Than Fiberglass Filters?
Pleating the filter media allows more media contained within the filter frame. More media means more surface area to capture and hold particles. The capacity to hold more dust makes the pleated filters last longer than fiberglass filters. One of the easiest ways to demonstrate the inefficiency of fiberglass air filters is to actually pour salt onto the filter and watch the salt pass right through it. Now imagine the dirt, dust and other particulates passing through your air filters and heading for your cooling coils, and eventually your occupied building space. Using pleated filters is highly recommended in all retail/commercial applications.

Keep in mind, airflow is a very important dynamic in an HVAC system. It helps in determining the efficiency of the unit along with serving to keep your facility clean. As the filter gets dirty the resistance increases which lowers the amount of air flow. In addition, dirty filters can cause water leaks, clog coils and cause further damage to your equipment. Many of our vendors have discontinued selling throw-away filters; ConServ promotes using pleated filters as the better alternative!

Advantages of Pleated Filters
Upgrade from fiberglass filters to pleated filters in your HVAC system, and immediately see the benefits:

  • Increased Energy Efficiency – Pleated filters maintain cleaner coils and greater heat transfer.
  • Reduced Housekeeping Costs – Pleated filters result in cleaner walls, ceilings, furnishings, etc.
  • Decreased Health Hazard – Pleated filters deliver greater particulate capture, fewer IAQ complaints, and do not promote bacterial growth.
  • Reduced Maintenance – Pleated filters maintain cleaner motors, coils, and other equipment components.
  • Reduced Labor – Pleated filters require fewer filter changes.
