In early 1989, three former Trane Company Executives partnered to form Multistack Inc., taking over the North American sales, marketing, engineering, and product support of an Australian-invented modular water chiller. Multistack started with a radically simple idea: water chillers made up of modules that could be brought into the equipment room one at a time, through standard doorways and down elevators, to form a fully integrated water chiller system. The Multistack machines can provide 70 tons in as little as 9.33 square feet per module.
Redundancy
N + 1 redundancy for a conventional system is usually another chiller of equal capacity. For Multistack, N + 1 is simply one more module rather than an additional separate chiller system. This makes N + 1 a much more affordable proposition. Also, because of the compartmentalized nature of a modular system, the risk of failing enough components to lose control of the load is very small.
Future Expandability
Not sure of the building load? Multistack’s expandable design allows you to be conservative with sizing, yet expand it later without penalty. Got a process that will grow in the future? Install what you need today and add modules when the timing is right!
Multistack perfected the first modular chiller to utilize MagLev™ compressor technology, and the first modular chiller to utilize R-410A. The Multistack Variable Flow Chiller also offers significant control and turn-down advantages in variable primary flow pumping systems that will both improve the energy profile of the system, and simplify the operation of the variable flow control system.
